Move in Day!!!
Well it is offical, we have signed all of the necessary paperwork and paid the ridiculous amout of fees and are now homeowners or our brand new home that we have been waiting for since May. Due to Ed's neck surgery, we had to convince my parents to help us move. We helped to buy their plane tickets and flew them in for Christmas and to help us move. They arrived Christmas day, and due to the lovely snow storm, arrived 1 hour later than originally expected. Dad was not too thrilled, but he is not a very patient man. We had a lovely Christmas dinner and enjoyed the rest of the day. On Wednesday, I went in to work for about 4 hours and then headed back to the apartment to help join the posey for packing. We packed the truck for about 6 hours until our legs were ready to fall off after having to haul things down 3 flights of stairs and back up for move things that we didnt realise that we had. This morning (Thursday) Ed and myself had to be at the house at 9am for final walk thru and paper signing at 11am. Mom and Dad made it to the house after finishing up some last minute morning packing and what do you know, we had another snow storm that we had the great misfortune to have to unload the truck during. We are now in the house and it is starting to feel a bit more homey with sheets acting as curtians and very few items in the living room, no TV yet or fridge, but it is all coming together. Tomorrow Mom and myself get the opportunity to go back to the apartment to clean up and try to get as much of our deposit money back.
3 More Weeks!
Hi Everyone!
A new week and we have lots to tell...
Edmond started working again monday and is doing alot better! He does hate the hard brace around his neck but he is doing well. He has to wear it for another 3 to 5 weeks depending on what the doc says. Next Wednesday he has another appointment to see how everything is healing and they will probably remove all the bandaids.
This week has been a bit stressfull, we had to setup the mortgage and pick a plan. We did settle with another plan then we wanted initially but the builder agreed to pay an amount in the closing costs.
As far as the build... It's a real home now!
The kitchen is mostly done. The granite countertop is in and the backsplash is also done. All the toilets are installed inclusing sinks. The outside of the house is painted in the green we picked and we like it alot. (The rules are that you cannot pick the same color house as far as 2 houses left and right from you and across the street to make sure not everyone does the same. This rule also counted for the model of house we picked so you don't have the same houses next to eachother.)
And all the lights are installed (when you build a new home, the builder provides the lights you picked).
Check out the pictures below where I'll explain it all a bit more.
You can see the kitchen has the countertops installed and the backsplash against the wall is made from a travertine tile. (a natural rock crystalised into calcite. It's a deposit from natural miniral (hot) springs) The hanging pendant lights above the island are off center. This will be fixed.
The granite island is made out of one piece and looks very nice. It's really hard to make a good picture of it. The sink is an undermount which we wanted.. easier to wipe the counter clean!
The diningroom is coming together. We picked brushed nickel finishing all over the house to have a bit more contemporary look.
This is one of the bathrooms upstairs. They are both very similar in their setup.
The Masterbathroom is almost finished. We love this room the most. The countertop is also made out of granite but has a more deep green color. Next to be installed is the glass wall around the shower.
A closeup of the shower and the fixtures we picked.
Last but not least the latest outside picture.
